What Size of Pool is Best For You?

A common question we get asked is what size pool they should get. The answer to this may not always be a clean-cut but it is one that you want to get right first time as you can’t change the size of the pool once it is in the ground!

As tempting as it maybe to get the biggest pool possible, budget and ongoing costs have to be considered. There are a number of questions we ask our customers to determine the best size of pool for them. These are:

1/ Who is going to be using the pool the most?

One of the most important questions to ask is who the pool is mostly going to be used by. It is good to understand what their requirements are going to be. Children for instance will end up using an 8m long pool as much as they would an 11m pool. Put simply, a child will play in a pool if it is 3m or 12m long!

2/ Do you plan on using the pool for exercise?

If you are looking to be using the pool for exercise then the length of the pool needs to be sufficient that you are able to get a good amount of swimming done before having to turn around again. A good length to look at is 11m +. However you can also look at getting a swim jet system which will allow you to swim indefinitely against a current of water which may end up being more cost effective.

3/ How much space do you have available?

Many people dream of owning a leisure facility sized pool in the beck garden but very few can warrant (or indeed, have) the space available. You will be unlikely to want the vast proportion of your garden taken up by your pool and so a consideration needs to be taken into account about the amount of space you want your pool to take up.

4/ Do you intend to entertain around your pool?

One of the wonderful things about owning a swimming pool is that it becomes a hub of entertainment for guests. Consider the space around the pool and how much pool surround you require. Many families elect to have a large pool surround for furniture, BBQs and outdoor kitchens.

These questions should allow you a bit of thought about the size of pool you truly need. By all means, if the answer to these questions leads you to getting a smaller pool than you wanted then you are free to go for the bigger size. It is also worth noting that a pool looks very different in person than you may think. We highly advise seeing a pool of the same size you are considering to reinforce your decision.
